Short Desciption
This project bring together 6 Special Schools from EU all with a slightly different area of focus and expertise but all school are aware of the social isolation of their pupils. Our project aims to tackle this issue and enable our pupils to play a more productive and involved role in our European society. Our efforts aim to ensure we raise skill levels of these vulnerable students and have a direct and life long impact on the connectivity with society in general.
In ideal
outdoor conditions (sunshine and 21 degrees), "Athletics light 2023"
took place on April 27 at Ernst Happel Stadium. The ALA class was represented
in the strongest line-up at this athletics event. Standing long jump, 30m
sprint, steeplechase and howler throw are the four sub-areas in this
competition. All the participants/athletes of FIDS 10 gave their best and
scored a proud 226 points, beating the ALG by 2 points.
Since in
the last years a total score of more than 220 points was sufficient for the
first three places and at the present time the scoring has not yet been
officially certified by the organizer, a place on the podium can already be
expected. The actual final ranking (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) will therefore be
submitted later.

On Friday, April 21, students of the Centar Tomislav
Špoljar and their teachers marked Earth Day with the action of cleaning the
school's yard. After an hour, all the papers, bottles and other
"gifts" left by the users of the school playground were picked up.
Flowers were planted in the jars in front of the school.
This year, the students and employees of the COO
Tomislav Špoljar showed a big heart and collected a lot of food and hygiene
items for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association. Groceries and necessities were
painstakingly collected, sorted, and finally handed over by students attending
Civic Education classes. This is a valuable volunteering experience for them.
World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated every year on
April 2. The students of the COO Tomislav Špoljar celebrated this day on
Tuesday, April 4, by talking and solving worksheets prepared for them by speech
therapist Mia. The students hosted second-grade students from one of Varaždin's
regular schools, and together they decorated Easter eggs and baked blue
pancakes.
Ourhad the opportunity to take part in a technology and design activity during February and March. Mrs Gordon brought in her Technology and Design equipment. The pupils learnt about using the tools safely and wearing protective equipment. From wooden branches they learnt to drill fine holes and insert lead into them. They made small and large pencils. They then had the opportunity of writing with them before taking them home.
This is work completed by our Y10's. They were learning about coasts. They investigated erosion, and the
detrimental effects to those working and living close to the coasts. Then they investigated how the moon's gravity
effected the tides. Lastly they
investigated the types of employment opportunities along the coast, from summer
holiday, sessional work, to work on the seas and environmental employment.
Erinn our Y 12 pupil is attending the local Regional College
to complete her Vocational Course on Hair and Beauty. She agreed to talk to our KS3 girls about
what she is doing at college and how to look after their health by looking
after the hair and beauty through staying clean and tidy. She then completed a practical demonstration
with some of the girls (with previous parental agreement) modelling for
her.Everyone loved the afternoon.
Competition,
sports and fun in Vienna on March 29, 2023.
More than
100 students with disabilities from eleven schools participated in the table
tennis tournament and bocce ball tournament. Sport and exercise for all - the
Schoool Games in Vienna were a great success again this year.
After all
the active participants had gathered in the sports hall, it was time to start
the Schoool Games. Boccia requires full concentration and physical effort.
Behind a
thick partition to the boccia talents there are seven table tennis tables just
waiting to be played on. The children and young people lost no time and get
going. Everywhere you look there was eager play, tactics, cheering or shaking
their heads in despair. ÖBSV mascot Flappy mingles with the athletes,
high-fives the winners and comforts the unlucky ones. The ORF captures the
great atmosphere in moving pictures, the loud boccia fans are in good voice
even after several hours of action.
Proud
winners and the crowning of great performances
After
several hours of intense sport, the shiny medals have well deserved their new
owners. To thunderous applause from the other students, the top finishers
collect their honours and a cloth mascot each.
FIDS10
table tennis team (Mohammad, Nibir, Carina and Omulbanin) with two third places
and one-2nd place.
All
participants had been assigned enormously strong opponents in their preliminary
rounds. However, Mohammad, Nibir and Carina managed to advance to the semi-finals
via the intermediate rounds. In the team duel between Mohammad and Nibir, Nibir
could prevail and qualify for the final. Against last year's tournament winner,
however, no set win was possible despite a very good performance. Since the
third places were not played, Mohammad reached the excellent 3rd place. After
Nibir had taken the third place last year, he succeeded in a further increase
and he rewarded for his performance with the 2nd place this year.
The
excellent 2nd place for Carina came as a surprise. In the final, she only had
to admit defeat to the outstanding winner of the past three years in a highly
dramatic final with 10:12/1:11 and 6:11.
FIDS10
bocce team with the tournament victory (Habiba, Hassina, Velina, Caroline and
Treasure)
After the
absence of some players, the two teams had to be re-formed by the coaches,
which proved to be an absolute stroke of luck in the further course of the
tournament in the constellation of Caroline and Treasure. After a bumpy start in
the first round, the two of them went on a brilliant run of success that could
not be stopped by their opponents even in the final match. This gave Caroline
and Treasure the first tournament win for FIDS10 in boccia.
We would
like to thank all the students who participated in the Schoool Games with joy
and enthusiasm, all the teachers who registered and accompanied their protégés
and all those who helped to organize this wonderful morning.
